From 2026, road tolls in Austria will be calculated differently
The Austrian government has decided to adopt a new road toll package, which will change the way road tolls are calculated for trucks in 2026. This decision means that road taxes will now be more dependent on CO2 emissions, noise and air pollution. With these changes, the tax value will temporarily be independent of the changing inflation rate.

Drivers of passenger cars will also face changes, as car vignettes will increase in price by 2.9% next year. A decision has also been made to replace the current adhesive vignettes with digital vignettes from 2027.

Due to the new changes, road tax prices will rise less than planned in 2026, but the tax reforms will still bring an additional €42 million to the state budget. The new reforms aim to encourage carriers to use environmentally friendly trucks.
